Hi all I need advice on my Triton, which seems to eat up shock absorbers for a living... I bought a "demo" Mitsubishi Triton 3.2D D/C 4x4 during November 2011 with 8 800km on the clock. Shortly after taking delivery car mileage check I experienced a vibration/shudder at certain car mileage check speeds and the bakkie felt loose on the road. I took it to Mitsubishi car mileage check who initially blamed the tyres (I had replaced the OE tyres with the Hankook Dynapro ATM's that were on my previous bakkie) and after some talks they replaced the left front (passenger side) and right rear shock absorbers, under warranty, at less than 10 000km. The reasons given were the poor state of our roads, and the fact that the OE shocks "are not that great". Before it reached car mileage check 30 000km I experienced the same vibration/shudder and it again felt loose (and unsafe) on the road. With it's 30 000km service the front shock absorbers were again replaced under warranty. Within less than 4 000km I again experienced the vibration/shudder and returned car mileage check it to Mitsubishi who unfortunately does not have the ability to do a shock test in Kimberley, which was requested by the warranty department, before they would again replace the shock absorbers. I thus had to drive the bakkie until it's 40 000km service with the increasing vibration/shudder and loose feeling. With it's 40 000km service the workshop manager checked the drive-train and suspension and could not find anything wrong. Test driving the bakkie with me he agreed that something was definately wrong and that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. He even said that he became nauseous car mileage check driving the bakkie. Despite not having done a shock test he persuaded the warranties department to replace the shock absorbers (I insisted on all 4 being replaced which was done) The workshop manager informed me that my bakkie was not locally manufactured and was imported. Therefore car mileage check when they ordered shock absorbers on the bakkie's VIN nr they were supplied with the overseas spec shock absorbers, which are not up to standard for South African conditions. As a result he replaced car mileage check all 4 shock absorbers with the South African spec ones, which are allegedly 50% stiffer than the imported ones. I have noticed that the previous sock absorbers were blue, whereas the new ones are black. I have since done almost 2000km during the holidays and the bakkie seems fine (for now?). However after a short rocky climb over rocky terrain in 4L, the vibration/shudder was back for a while on the open road (less than before but still there). It has however since subsided, although I sometimes feel it now and again, although I must confess I am not certain whether it really is back, or whether my mind is playing tricks on me. Mitsubishi car mileage check is not prepared to fit brand name shock absorbers, while it is still under warranty. car mileage check I am concerned about the fact that the warranty expires at the end of the year, whereafter it will become my problem. I fear that it may be something serious concerning the suspension/drivetrain. I really enjoy the bakkie, and do not intend to replace it in the near future. I also have to state that I am a pen-pusher, not a farmer, car mileage check and I do not drive a lot of gravel roads at all. I do drive the odd gravel road to game farms now and then, and I do a 4x4 trial once or twice a year. I traded in my previous double cab, an Isuzu with 88 000km on the clock, without ever having had to replace car mileage check a shock absorber. The Triton now has 42 000km on the clock, having had shock absorbers replaced 3 times! Has anybody else experienced similar problems, or can anyone give me advice on what the possible causes could be? All comments and help will be appreciated. __________________ _____________________________ Mitsubishi Triton 3.2Di-D D/C 4x4 2011 Smash & Grab, Andy-Cab car mileage check canopy, Nudge Bar, Hella Spots, car mileage check Hankook Dynapro AT/M's, Escape Gear Seatcovers, Monroe 4x4 Gas Magnums Jurgens Xplorer 2011 Previously: car mileage check Isuzu KB 300 D-Tech 4x2 2008 Landrover Discovery II Td5 2002 Jeep Cherokee 2.5Crd 2001 Datsun 1200 Married to Zooky Cooky Swambo's: Suzuki Jimny 2009 Smash & Grab, Nudge Bar, Hella Spots, Frontrunner car mileage check Roofrack, Towbar, Escape Gear Seatcovers
My car has 40k on it. By 30k still way in its FULL Maintenance car mileage check plan and warrentees, I dropped out the OEM shocks (those things are PATHETIC) and fitted at my own cost a set of Gabriel HDP's, you wont believe how much better the car is afterwards, car mileage check Manny will tell you he is not a religious person but once were driving behind me on route to Moegatle and he was praying the whole way on my behalf while still on the crappy oil shocks. Get some decent shocks car mileage check pronto, you wont regret it. __________________ Amarok is a fashion statement:
agree with above, fit aftermarket shocks at your cost , but do it BEFORE your warranty runs out... that way, should the problem persist you can say with 100% accuracy that the shocks are not the problem and force them to resolve the issue at their expense. IMHO __________________ -------
