Prices of Burgundy wines increased by 54.3%. The "part of the president" sold 270,000 euros. Low volume but high quality. The market opens to Asia, particularly China.
152nd sale of the Hospices de Beaune, vin identification conducted by Christie's, recorded on Sunday a historic rise in Burgundy wine, more than 54.3% compared to 2011. Prices for white wines grew 18%, and those red wines 68.8%. Chaired by the former first lady of France, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, selling "the candle" of the prestigious "Part of the president" vin identification of this wine charity sale, the largest in the world, was won by a man Ukrainian affairs, Igor Iankovskyi. He acquired it was 350 liters of Corton Grand Cru Charlotte Dumay for 270,000 euros. Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, vin identification who facilitated the sale, promised to come give itself room to the buyer if the auctions totaled 200,000 euros. She even said that her husband, Nicolas Sarkozy, would beyond 250,000 euros. It has however refused to sing, as requested her room. The money raised vin identification will support two charities, the foundation of Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who works in favor of culture for the poor and the Idea Foundation, which works on epilepsy. The funds raised by the rest of the charity vin identification auction organized since 1859, will fund meanwhile the Beaune hospital. In total, the sales reported EUR 5.264 million, breaking all its records. A performance all the more remarkable that the volume of wine on sale this year was particularly low due to bad weather.
Frost, rain and hail have indeed reduced the production of the vineyard vin identification of 30% on average this year. Five hundred and twelve casks of wine (casks of 228 liters) were sold, against 765 in 2011. However, the 2012 vintage is characterized by high quality, with 85% of the wine rooms classified Premier Cru and Grand Cru. "It's a big year for red, pinot got a great concentration of colors ranging from dark red to black and powerful tannins," says Michel Baldassini, the Interprofessional Office of Burgundy wines. "In both red and white, the 2012 vintage will be remarkable," predicted Anthony Hanson, consultant for wines at Christie's. This combination of rarity and quality is expected to boost the price of Burgundy, as shown by the results of the sale, which usually gives the trend of the Burgundy vin identification wine market for the year. "But the price of wines by the bottle generally increases less than the price of bulk wines, there is a kind of smoothing that occurs," says Michel Baldassini. The market for Burgundy vin identification wines, dominated export from the United States, Great Britain and Japan, which together account for half of its three opportunities abroad, opens quickly to Asia especially to China.
"We record this year, compared to 2011, 40% of Chinese over on-line registration," notes Michael Ganne, wine specialist at Christie's. "This year, there is an interest in Asia much higher than the previous years, it spends a lot of Hong Kong which then shines on the mainland." China and Hong Kong now come the fifth Bourgogne customers with 15 million euros control in 2012, against 9,000,000 in 2011. The Burgundy wine market, however, remains dominated by the United States which represent 20% exports, up 10% this year. Then Britain, which after staying away vineyard seems rediscover with sales up 13% in 2012. As for Japan, with a 35% increase this year, it is set to become the second largest market Burgundy wine, ahead of Britain.
